1984 Flood: January - February 1984

he 1984 flood resulted in scores of homes and businesses flooded through the Peel and Namoi Valleys with millions of dollars in damage. Flood in Tamworth was the worst since the 1955 flood. Heavy overnight rain pushed the Peel over its banks and bridges, dividing the city for much of 31 January with a two kilometre wide brown torrent carry trees and dead stock through the city.

Sandbagging was required as water pooled throughout the day inside the Tamworth levee.

Homes in Westdale, Scott Rd, Goonoo Goonoo Rd and Ebsworth St were inundated. The Taminda Industrial area was also affected, with water over a metre deep in some buildings.
