Shear Havoc - December 2007

Conditions in Eastern Australia in the period 5th - 12th December were more conducive to producing severe thunderstorms with damaging winds and hail due to the stronger stearing winds and increased shear.

Tamworth, NSW: 7th December

A storm on the Northern fringes of Tamworth, NSW on the afternoon of 7th December produced damaging winds that caused major damage to a number of buildings in Oxley Vale and Moore Creek. The snapping of a concrete high voltage power pole at the base along with other damage to electricity infrastructure resulted in extensive power outages in the areas North of Tamworth, including the towns of Manilla and Barraba:

North-West/Northern Sydney, NSW: 9th December

A storm producing hail to 8cm moved across North-West and Northern Sydney on the afternoon of the 9th December causing extensive damage to homes and cars with an estimated repair bill in excess of $100 million.
